ETCHED INTO SPORTING HERITAGE...

Kelme have been 'Leaving Our Mark' on the sportswear landscape since the brand's founding over 60 years ago, and we're still making an impression.

The Story So Far...

KELME THROUGH THE YEARS

1960 - 1978

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

For more than 65 years, Kelme has left its mark on sport.

Diego (pictured) and Jose Quiles requested the trademark for Kelme in 1960 and the company was officially founded in Elche, Alicante in 1963.

Kelme entered a transformative phase in the early 70s' as the brothers' propelled the business forward, and a variation of our iconic paw logo was then introduced in 1977. The paw - inspired by the Iberian Lynx which is native to the region - and 'Leave Your Mark' slogan represent the instinct which our brand still embodies to this day; to explore, conquer and leave a lasting legacy.

The brothers began with a simple ambition: to create high-quality footwear that customers could trust.

1979 - 1989

FUTBOL FEVER

In 1979, Kelme started to focus on sports shoes and began to make waves in the cycling sector specifically, as the Kelme sponsored cycling team - founded in 1980 - went on to have great success over the next twenty years.

The brand launched it's first professional football shoe to coincide with Spain's hosting of the 1982 World Cup, and from this moment made great strides towards becoming a recognisable name in Spanish football.

This shoe paved the way for the Kelme footwear which we see today, and high-profile player sponsorships in the late 20th-century spearheaded our rise, kitting out icons such as Gaizka Mendieta and Ivan Zamorano.

1990 - 1993

ON THE WORLD STAGE

By 1990, Kelme had begun to cement the position as one of the big players in Spanish sportswear.

Solidifying our football presence with numerous La Liga teams, and branching out onto the world stage as the official kit provider for the Colombia national team in 1991.

Our first foray into professional basketball came during this period, as legend and Kelme spokesperson Jordi Villacampa donned the Kelme claw as he represented Spain at the FIBA Basketball World Cup, and won the Spanish Basketball Cup with Joventut de Badalona in 1990.

Kelme's biggest partnership to date came in 1992, as the official technical sponsor for the Spanish Olympic Team at their home Olympic Games in Barcelona.

The games was an overwhelming success for the nation as they amassed 22 medals (13 gold, 7 silver and 2 bronze) - a record that still stands to this day!

1994 - 1998

BECOMING GALACTICOS

As Real Madrid entered a new era, Kelme stood alongside one of football's most iconic institutions. Between 1994 and 1998, Los Blancos wore the claw as the club laid the foundations for the Galácticos era, reclaiming domestic success and returning to the pinnacle of European football.

During this period, Real Madrid captured the 1994/95 La Liga title and, in 1998, ended a 32-year wait to lift the UEFA Champions League trophy once again. Worn by legends and witnessed on the world's biggest stages, the partnership cemented Kelme's reputation as a brand capable of performing at the very highest level of the game.

For four defining years in Madrid, the claw became part of football history.

1999 - 2026

THE MODERN ERA

Entering the modern era, Kelme evolved from a celebrated Spanish sports brand into a truly global football force. In the 2018/19 season, Kelme was the most represented technical sponsor in La Liga, underlining its enduring influence at the highest level of Spanish football.

The claw's reach has since extended across Europe, Asia and the Middle East through partnerships with clubs, federations and major international competitions. Kelme became an Official Global Supporter of the AFC Asian Cup, supplying official apparel and creating the tournament's official match ball, while continuing long-standing relationships with clubs including Espanyol and Watford, alongside partnerships with teams and organisations across the world.

Today, Kelme's presence spans elite football and grassroots communities alike, carrying its Spanish heritage onto pitches in every corner of the game.
